Some adventures

I have had two adventures lately, of the health-related variety:
  1. I went to one of the local hospitals and had a head CT, which involved laying very still on a bench that slowly moved until my head was in the center of a giant donut within which an X-ray machine rotated around and around. This was because my otolaryngologist says I have a deviated septum and wants to see how bad it is. Now I have a CD full of data to give to her.
  2. One of my molars had a big silver filling in it from my late teens, and the tooth had pretty much died since then--it was all dark colored. So our new dentist got out the big guns and ground the tooth down to nothin', and then, three weeks later, put a gold tooth in its place. Now I feel like a pirate. If it had been a visible tooth he would have used porcelain, but since it's so far back gold was okay. Plus gold is less expensive and lasts longer.
Also this morning I registered and made hotel reservations for Readercon which takes place the first weekend in July. At Boskone, more than one person told me I would probably really enjoy Readercon, so I figured I'd check it out.

Edited: I just reread this and the description of the head CT machine sounded funny. It was not a giant fried confection, it was actually a giant donut-shaped machine made of plastic and metal and glass.

I didn't picture the CT as a giant actual donut until your note at the end, but now I'm visualizing a huge powdered donut with a person's head in it.

Will the metal-detectors in airports be able to detect that you're a pirate, now that you have a piece of treasure embedded in your head? Arrrh! I hope not!

Re: some adventures
I think that as long as I'm not wearing a hook on my hand or carrying a cutlass or a brace of pistols, I'll be fine.
