Burnt banana bread!

Our oven done broke. I put two loaf pans full of potentially-delicious banana bread batter in and set it at 350° F for 45 minutes like I always do, and Sarah called me downstairs eight minutes later because the top of the loaves had blackened to a charred mess and the oven was full of smoke. Bleah.

A little experimenting with the temperature dial and the preheat light we determined that setting the temperature was having no effect, and it was always just heating and heating and heating up as high as it could go. So, rats. I tried to cook what was left of the banana bread in the toaster oven but it just didn't work.

I was really in the mood for some fresh-baked banana bread, too. Now I have to wait for our landlady to get a repairperson to come out here and fix the oven up. Or maybe we'll get lucky and she'll decide to upgrade the oven, since I think this one is from the 1970s and I have to imagine it's not as efficient as a more modern model!

my oven temperature is always 100 degrees more than I set it for. This was bad before I realized it, but now that I know, I just have to adjust it accordingly. Old ovens are weird though.

Well, at least you managed to figure it out so you can bake stuff. That is good. Life without baking is difficult!

We've got a repairman coming out on Thursday morning to fix it. That seems so far off! I think twice today I said to myself, "I'll just toss these in the oven... oh crud."
