Visiting Rhode Island

On Saturday the weather was nice so Sarah and I decided to take a day trip down to Rhode Island, since we haven't been back since June when we moved out of our old apartment. We hopped in the car a little after 8 in the morning and away we went!

After dinner in Providence we drove down to our old apartment complex and parked in our usual spot and walked around a little, and we visited the garden there. I took a picture of Sarah in front of our apartment building but she is making a really goofy face so I am not going to post it out of respect for her.

Then we went down to Charlestown, to Blue Shutters Beach, and spent some time looking at the waves. In this photo I had set the camera on a log that was conveniently sticking up out of the sand, and set the timer, and then stood with Sarah. I look rather bulky because I am wearing multiple layers since, while the sun was out, the wind on the beach made it very chilly.

Then we had coffee and read books at Dave's Coffee, which is a wonderful little coffeehouse along Route 1 where we used to hang out a lot, and we had dinner at Crazy Burger. Longtime readers of this blog will remember Crazy Burger from earlier posts that I am too lazy to try and hunt down right now.

By an amazing coincidence, Saturday was the final Waterfire of the year in Providence, so on our way back north we stopped and watched the lighting. For the last couple summers, the torchieres at one end of the lighting area have been lit by a talented and handsome fire-spinner. He was there again, still shirtless despite the cold.

We got home again at about 10 p.m. and went to bed. It was nice and already pretty nostalgic to visit Rhode Island.
