Garden

We moved into this beautiful old house in August. It's on three acres of land with a small pond and lots of beautiful yard and trees and stuff. So, since we had the space, we wanted to do some gardening. Not content to just dig up a spot of dirt and plant stuff, I asked the landlady if she would mind if I put in a couple of raised garden beds. She said that was okay.

The spot she said I should use was the place she had been dumping yard waste for years, so it was a giant composting mound of leaves, covered with tall grass. (I didn't take an actual "before" photo, so this is the best one I could find showing the mound:

Garden (Before)

I spent a week pulling up grass and weeds, digging out trenches, cutting lumber and building beds, and then put them in place and filled in the trenches, and here is the end result:

Garden (After)

That strange dirt pile at the left end is actually our current compost pit. I am planning on building a much larger, wooden compost bin to replace that, since we've only been here a couple months and the pit is nearly full.

I am proud of my little garden. We are planning to plant some garlic this Fall, and then many more plants next Spring.

Have I mentioned you are awesome for building those? I admire them daily, really. You're awesome. :)
