Déjà lu

Today I was happily reading my new copy of Neil Gaiman and Charles Vess' graphic novel version of Stardust (which mangofandango gave me for Christmas) when suddenly I realized I was reading the same thing I had just read mere minutes ago. Pages 17 through 32 had been repeated, and pages 33 through 48 were missing entirely!

When this sort of thing happened to mabfan, he managed to turn it into a net gain by auctioning the book in question off to a collector. Of course, his book was Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and it was a first printing, and his wasn't missing a big chunk of pages, they were just bound upside-down. Mine's not quite as popular, and is a third printing, and I doubt there are any fanatical collectors who want to buy it for more than its cover price.

So I'm exchanging it for a new copy, which Amazon says they'll ship immediately even though I haven't sent this copy back yet. Awful nice of them!

I should also add that I only got about $70 for the book. After using the money to buy a new copy, plus paying fees for setting up an eBay seller's account, plus a little bit of other mishegoss, I mostly broke even.

Is Stardust your first Gaiman novel? If so, I hope you become hopelessly addicted to his work like I am. ^_^

No, I've read all his books. I've been a fan since I first came across Good Omens in '96!

YAY! You wouldn't believe how many people give me a dumb stare when I mention Gaiman as one of my favourite authors ... Good to know I'm not the only one who reads his stuff. ^_^

One last question about you reading some Gaiman ... since you said you are a fan, you must have read 'Sandman' ... and if not, hop to it! I promise you'll love it just like everyone else I have shamelessly trapped into reading the graphic novels.
