Computer problems

Sometime in the night, my desktop's power supply died. I had a spare in the closet, though, so I replaced it. Now I think it's only detecting three of the four hard drives, and the one it's not detecting is the boot drive, so no computer for me right now. I'm glad I have a working laptop. My last full system backup was about a month ago, so I haven't lost too much even if I can't get the drives all working again.

Someday, I'll have a central server with redundant, hot-swappable everything, and just use wireless dumb terminals around the house. Then this sort of thing won't happen.

Meanwhile, I have to try and fix this. Sigh.

we talk about that a lot - but we haven't gotten closer to having that turn into reality yet.

Yeah, I talk about it often, too. I kind of feel like this sort of setup ought to become more and more common as computer usage becomes more and more ubiquitous, and eventually the software and hardware setups to support it should be much easier to find and put together. But I guess I shouldn't hold my breath. It'd make more sense to start working on making one now and get the information out there for other people to use.
