Music / Lyrics

During my visit to the old cemetary in Wakefield, I also saw this gravestone. It intrigued me that this guy would find music and lyrics so important as to have them on his gravestone, so I decided to look him up.

Raymond A. Browne

Raymond A. Browne, of New York City, seems to have been a songwriter around the turn of the 20th century. He penned such hits as "When Santa Claus Comes Around," "I Need the Money," "Pickaninny It's Time You Was In Bed," "The Mormon Coon," and others.

UC Berkeley's California Sheet Music Project has digitized the sheet music of some of his songs, even, so if you fancy playing some old-time tunes, here's a selection.
