In Mystic this Saturday, I got myself this awesome bag. It's exactly what I've been looking for: big enough for a laptop (with accessories), my good leather-bound notebook, a book, my cellphone, my Neuros, and lots more.

After hanging around Mystic for most of the day, we discovered Stonington Borough, which is a little seaside town like (and very near) Mystic, with loads of shops and restaurants along a scenic main street. We ate at Noah's, a cute little restaurant that we just saw profiled on $40 a Day (a Food Network show hosted by Food's answer to Katie Couric, Rachael Ray).

In other news, Sarah and I have started a new blog in which we will jot down our thoughts about television and television-related program activities. It's called Shallow, Like Us and I've already written a handful of entries to get it started. I'm particularly proud of the latest one. (If you want to syndicate it on your friends page, just add shallowlikeus to your friends list.)

I love the fact that the shipping weight of the bag is 0.0. It's like cargo pants...for your back!

It actually weighs a little more than that. It's all heavy-duty cotton canvas.

Someone else who watches $40 a Day! I must confess that I am deeply, deeply in love with Rachael Ray--I'd be perfectly content to watch her read the phone book. (Or cook it up into some weird Italian-Cajun fusion dish.) I enjoy her more on 30 Minute Meals than her other shows, but she's just great, and I personally prefer her to Katie Couric, because her sense of humor jives with mine a bit more. But she's a lot of fun, and she's probably been more responsible than anyone else for actually getting me cooking sometimes. (And her recipe for carbonara is horrifyingly good.)

Re: Hooray!
We don't watch it all the time, but it is fun when we do, especially when she's doing a place we know or might visit (she just did Nantucket recently, too -- that's not too far away).

Ray v. Couric
I think Rachel Ray is more sultry than Katie Couric. Also, she's a lush. She always seems to get a drink wherever she goes, and toward the end of the day, she seems a lot "looser" and talkative. I think she actually spends far more at the places but only writes about $40.

By the way, I only felt the need to reply to this entry in June because Sara (pididdle) told me Rachel Ray did a $40 in Mystic, and that you had it in your LiveJournal, and we're eating there tonight. Gotta love random references.
