I wish I could be in Boston today.

Congratulations to all the happy couples!

I hear there's also much rejoicing in Chile, where the government recently legalized divorce...

Hah. Well, congratulations to all the happy singles too.

I'm hoping we have a similar breakthrough in my state:

Over the weekend, 40 gay couples were married by ministers, who
will be submitting affidavits today, requesting licenses.

In finding a link to a story about this, I just found out that some
anti-gay marriage protesters will be at the state capitol today.
Coincidentally, I'll be in that area installing some servers, so I
think I may have to go interfere with a protest.

I hope this all ends up with legalized gay marriage here, too.

Yeah, I'm really hoping that this starts spreading outwards from Massachusetts. The mayor of Providence, RI is openly gay, but we haven't really made any steps toward legalising gay marriage here yet.

Let me know if you were successful in your heckling! :)

Nope... I didn't get a chance to make it out there.

I've had a lot of time to think of what I would have done though, and I think the best way to subvert a protest like that would be to play along like you're one of the protesters. I'd make a bigass sign that says "One White Man, One White Woman" or "What's Next, Integrated Schools? Ban Interracial Marriage."

Or maybe pictures of OJ and Nicole Simpson (or some other famous heterosexual marriage disaster) with the text "This is what my Bible says marriage is."

The Bad Religion song "American Dream" would make for a good sign, too: "One Boy, One Girl, Comfortable Lies"

I don't understand.
You're (a) already married, and (b) straight. Why would you want to be in Boston today? :)

Re: I don't understand.
Why yes, I am (a) already married.

I wanted to be there to congratulate the newlyweds and enjoy the spirit of goodwill and happiness and joy and to witness an historic, groundbreaking event!

me too.

it's also the 50th anniversary of brown vs board of education. the coincidence is deliciously symbolic.

Yeah. I liked reading your entry on the subject, too. It's nice that there are occasional rays of sunshine in the current political climate.
