I am going to run for Rhode Island state senate on a platform of eliminating Daylight Savings Time and also enforcing turn signals and taxing donuts to pay for education and urban renewal.

Who will vote for me?

Not me. Mmm, donuts. Plus the whole living-in-Seattle thing.

Donuts are a plague upon RI. You can't drive for five minutes without passing a donut shop. I am surprised we don't top the nation in obesity. The amount of fried dough consumed per capita here is staggering.

I was having a donut or two each week until last December, when I pretty much stopped cold turkey. Since then I've lost 20 pounds. No joke.

So I figure, if I levy a tax of, say, a nickel on each donut sold, that'll pay for a whole lotta educated inner-city kids.

but what will the time stay on? the spring forward time or the fall back time? i will only vote for you if it stays on the spring forward time, because i like it staying ligh outside til 8 o clock :) getting dark early in the winter makes me depressed

I agree that early darkness in the winter is depressing. I will take that into consideration when I draft my official plan.

I'm with you on the turn signals and donuts, but I am kind of partial to Daylight Savings time, I wouldn't want it to go away. I suppose though it would all boil down to how well you campaigned. ;)

Ack! DST is an archaic, pointless institution that has no function in our current society. It was started during World War I to reduce the daily use of fuel for artificial lighting in the evenings. However, this argument hardly applies today. Furthermore, the Monday after the "spring forward", traffic accidents across the nation increase by 8 percent! The real cost of throwing off everyone's body clocks is certainly not offset by any miniscule savings in electricity bills.

What about LIFE SAVINGS TIME?

But there's still something that's oddly comforting about it being 8 o'clock and not dark yet in the summer. I don't think we need to go backwards, I'd be happy with just going forward, but since the two are a pair that just wouldn't work.
...like I said though, have a good campaign and you might very way turn me into a DST hater as well.

I would.
I don't think i can, being a massachusetts person, but I would do my best to campaign for you.
Daylight savings time is really lame.

Well, you can vote for me when my term runs out and I run again!

Sorry, I do get your messages but I have been really busy for the past two weeks. I'll do my best to make it to your show, though!

I'd love to hear your anti-DST argument. Because I'm pro-.

Personally, I love getting out of work when there's still sunlight.

I would, but I live in Michigan and I'm not even close to 18 yet. Maybe when I'm older I'll move to RI just long enough to register and vote for you. I'm all for getting rid of DST, it's a complete waste. It just confuses people.

Yes.
Seeing as I live in Rhode Island, and you've got some pretty kick-ass ideas, I'd definitely vote for you.

Daylight Saving saves electricity. (People light stuff when it's late.)
But don't worry, I don't vote.
