Vagina Monologues!

Last night I got home and after some rushing around doing errands and eating dinner, walked up to the URI Memorial Union to see the first performance of the Vagina Monologues, in which mangofandango was the CUTEST MONOLOGIST EVER.

Before the show started, I ran into celticgirl106 in the lobby, and then morleygirl25 and evaleia showed up shortly afterwards. We chatted for a bit until pididdle arrived, whom I had actually arranged to meet, and we went into the auditorium and took our seats.

(pididdle is fun to spend time with, even though we don't have much to talk about since we've only really just met and we're both a bit shy. I would like to get to know her better, but she's considering ABANDONING ME here in RI and transferring to UNC, so it may not happen!)

The show started and there was my sweetie mangofandango on stage, speaking the lines she and I had gone over time and time again but this time all dressed up cute and in front of a sold-out crowd. Yay! She did wonderfully, and so did the rest of the cast. I was informed afterwards that several of the girls actually forgot their lines and improvised much of their monologues, but I hadn't even noticed. They were all powerful or funny or interesting or moving and I thought everyone did a great job.

(I loved "The Angry Vagina." I loved it last year, the first time I saw the Monologues, too. It's just a great piece when it's done by the right actress, and the woman who did it last night was spot-on.)

There are performances tonight and tomorrow night at 8 p.m. for anyone local who's interested. Tickets are $7 for students or $10 for non-students. Go see it!

I don't think I quite understand what it is. Could you explain it a little bit?

It's a series of monologues about various women's issues, like sexuality, sexual health, and violence against women. The monologues are all based on interviews that Eve Ensler conducted with hundreds of women of every race, age, and culture from all over the world, so they cover a lot of ground. There are a lot of really funny parts, and really moving stories, and interesting information. It's definitely worth seeing.
