From Cats? Nah, I know that one. I'm thinking of one that I don't actually know, but I'd-know-it-if-I-heard-it, y'know? :)

Is that the one with the guy in the red tights from the 80's?

Beats me. I haven't actually ever seen any operas (shame on me) so I have no idea what the opera is about or anything. But it's just that song, y'know? The one you hear sometimes?

Is this like who was that guy in that movie about that thing with that chick?

Or mayhaps that because I'm not feeling well today things are going straight over my head and you've asked a valid question...lol

My answer? I have no idea what you're talking about. ;)

I do actually mean a specific song from a specific opera, but I can't for the life of me remember any details. But it's one of those songs that lots of people know and that gets used elsewhere. So I figured someone on LJ would know.

Surely you are referring to Rigli Pagliacci, from Il Pagliacci, a tragic opera about clowns.

Re: Hmm...
Surely you are referring to "Recitar!...Vesti la Giubba" or "Ridi, pagliaccio" from I Pagliacci.

My money's on "La Donna é Mobile" from Rigoletto or The Toreador Song from Carmen.

Do I win anything?

The Toreador Song was my guess, too.

I have never heard of that.

It sounds like the name of a Transylvanian count who sucks the funny out of things.

Oh, wait, I know this one...
"Recitar" (AKA Ridi, pagliaccio) from I Pagliacci?
"O sole mio" the Neapolitan song?
"Largo al factotum" (AKA Figaro Figaro Figaro) from Il Barbiere di Siviglia?
"L'amour est un oiseau rebelle" (aka the Habanera) from Carmen?
"La donna e mobile" from Rigoletto?
"Sous la dome epais" (AKA the British Airways theme) from Lakme?
"Quando men' vo" (AKA Musetta's Waltz) from La Boheme?
"Un bel di" from Madama Butterfly?
"Voi che sapete" from Le Nozze di Figaro?
"Libiamo" (AKA Brindisi) from La Traviata?

"The Music of the Night" from that godawful Andrew Lloyd Webber musical which is not an opera?

Yeah, that's what I thought.

Re: Oh, wait, I know this one...
Hmm, there is another Carmen song in that list. I am fairly certain that it is from Carmen, but now I don't know which one of the songs it is.

Grr. Now this not-being-able-to-download-mp3s-from-work is really bugging me!

The rest of those songs sound nice too and I probably ought to edumacate myself by listening to them.

I was going to guess "La Donna é Mobile" but skos beat me to it.

So I'm going to guess "Don Giovanni, a cenar teco" from (obviously) Don Giovanni, since that's a really cool one, even if it isn't in Carmen.

MoLM is a musical, and I'm quite familiar with it, so I would have known if that was the song I couldn't think of. I think.

But I'm fairly certain now that it's something from "Carmen," so I'm going to look into that straightaway when I get home.

Also, bedframe bedframe bedframe?

How about something from "La Boheme" ?

When I think 'opera' - that's what I think of...it's such a beautiful story...

Toreador, oh, don't spit on the floor.
Please use the cuspador.
That's what it's for.
