Today we didn't have any carryable food in the fridge, so I said to myself, I said, "I'll buy myself a sandwich or something for lunch."

Lunchtime came. I got in my car and drove out to look for a food-place. A café, a diner, an eatery, anything that would serve something inexpensive, filling, and preferably yummy.

I drove and drove.

Since I just started this job, I don't know any of the surrounding area. So I hoped that I would be able to drive randomly and find a food-place. It seems like a reasonable assumption, since the area is fairly suburban, with several large companies (Pfizer, the Coast Guard, University of Connecticut at Avery Point) all in the middle of it.

Eventually, and accidentally, I found myself on the entrance ramp to I-95 with no way to get off. So I ended up driving up a mile, taking the next exit, turning around, and driving back, seething.

Eventually I found a Wendy's. Hooray! Food, of a sort! I went in. I stood in line for ten minutes. I was hungry and a burger sounded good. It came to be my turn to order.

I had no cash in my wallet, and Wendy's doesn't take plastic. Seethe.

So I drove a little ways down the street to get cash at the CVS drugstore. CVS doesn't have an ATM inside, but they do give cash back when you make a purchase with your debit card at the register. So I grabbed a pack of gum and got in line to purchase it. There was one woman in front of me. She was short and heavy and had back problems such that she couldn't stand up straight or, apparently, move faster than a sloth. And she was buying several hundred packages of maxipads. And paying with a check. *Seethe!*

Ten minutes later, I had a pack of gum and $20. I was still mad at Wendy's for not taking debit cards, so I drove instead to the Blimpie's sub shop just down the road. I ordered a roast beef sub without incident, and got a bottle of apple juice to go with it. Then I drove back to work to eat there.

Mmm, sub. I was starving. I had spent nearly 45 minutes tracking down this sub. Mmm.

The sub was disgusting. The meat was foul, the bread was soggy, the lettuce was rancid. I ate several bites, gave up, and threw the rest away. Then I felt sick.

At least the apple juice was good.

Wow, that is pretty terrible. Hopefully the rest of the week goes better :) Oh, and if you get the chance, could you tell Sarah that there's an esa meeting tonight (Wednesday), at 5 p.m. in Memorial Union Room 312? thanks :)
