I was shaken this morning on my drive in to work when the newscaster said Johnny Cash passed away last night. I've always liked his hits, but only recently have I started to get into his larger body of work. I guess his death was inevitable, given his health lately, but it still upset me.

And John Ritter, although I've never been a big fan of his, was not someone I expected to pass away so soon. What an awful thing.

In my own life, there is a big impending woe. Both of our computers are very old and rapidly decaying. The Windows box freezes at least once a day, and it has recently starting making a loud humming sound. This morning, the Linux box also started making a loud noise. We really need to completely replace them, but, of course, we don't have the money to do so right now. Hopefully they'll last at least a few more months so we have some time to save a little cash. Sigh.

I was sad to hear about Johnny Cash, but I knew it was coming. When June died, I told my mom it was only a matter of time before he follwed- they were so close.

John Ritter - I still haven't caught what exactly happened to him. He was only around 50, though, right?

We got a new rat yesterday and named him Linus, after the inventor of Linux :) (I let Alex name him...)

Ritter was in his mid-50s. Apparently he had a defective aorta for no particular reason, which sucks.

Yay for a new rat!

Ah, that's a terrible shame about Mr. Cash. I've never really heard any of his work, but he's someone I have always meant to try and hear more of, and I suppose that in some terrible but perhaps familiar way, this may well be the impetus for that.

Still. Given the near-mainstream popularity and emotional impact of his 'Hurt' cover, and the video of it in particular, I think he has at least passed away on a high-note, in that one respect.

Is it possible that the humming is coming from a power supply fan?

I've had the same thing (although, my hum may have been different than your hum.. but I did have several different hums on several different boxes for the same problem...)

Anyway, might want to check that out.. maybe you can prolong the life with a part or two for cheap. My gimp HP is still going after a few years, and my mother's franken-machine Ive kept going for about 7 now.
