Oh. My. God.

We have a new car!

Yesterday, we went to the Toyota dealer in Newport, and bought a nice white '02 Prius. It is exquisite in its hybriddy goodness! I have never driven a quieter car, and compared to our old station wagon (which had the noisiest fuel-pump in the world) it's just astounding. The ride is amazingly smooth, it has a massively roomy interior, and... wow. Everything about it is great.

I felt sad watching the old Passion Wagon get taken away by the dealer, though. It was really a part of our little family. My grandmother bought it new back in '93, drove it until '98 when my older brother bought it from her, and he sold it to Sarah and me in aught-one. When we got rid of it, it had nearly 168,000 miles on it and was on the verge of breaking down. (Nota bene: it was not called "the Passion Wagon" until I got it. My grandmother probably would not approve.)

But this new sweet little car is simply astounding. Plus, I feel a wonderful sense of responsibility now that I have it. It saves gas, has amazingly low emissions, and Toyotas are the most reliable cars in the world (according to a recent Consumer Reports study). I think this was a very good investment, even though it means we'll be without much spending money for the next few years.

I'm so happy with it. I want to show it off. If anyone wants a ride, just let me know. :)

Toyota rule. They have -- at least around here -- one of the lowest "downtimes" of all car makers (i. e., they need the fewest repairs)

That's pretty true around here, too. Consumer Reports said that the Prius was the second most reliable vehicle on the market (Echo was first) in a recent report. My parents have owned several Toyotas in the past, and even the used ones have needed remarkably few repairs over time. I really hope the trend continues.
