NotNaNoWriMo Update

If my boss would give me work to do, I would do it. But she hasn't, so I write. I'm now at 9,771 words and I'm apparently doing better (word-count-wise) than about 80% of all signed-up NaNoWriMo participants despite not having actually signed up.

Also, the Free State Project seems like a very cool idea.

Free State Project
Hmm.

For some reason, this idea really really disturbs me.

Not that I'm not a fan of liberty. I'm especially fond of the idea of local self-sufficiency wherever possible and decentralisation of control structures. It's just... it seems to me that, in my experience, the people who shout loudest about 'Freedom' are also the ones who are most ready to interpret Freedom as the licence to dictate terms to others.

And from what I can see of the world, the biggest force encroaching on individual liberty right now is not Government, but Private Enterprise. When an organisation with a top-down command structure owns enough resources and infrastructure to be able to dictate terms to its clients, does it really matter whether they're called 'citizens' or 'customers'? Other than that customers don't have voting rights on the board?
