Mini-break

I've been quite pleasantly surprised with the response to my latest short-short, and that's inspired me to work harder on my writing. I also caught up on James D. Macdonald's Learn Writing with Uncle Jim thread, which is full of thought-provoking ideas and great writing exercises. So I've been digging out old stories and looking into markets again. It feels good.

My job with the Coast Guard ended on Wednesday (they gave me a nice ballpoint pen emblazoned with the Coast Guard logo) and I start work back at the ASA offices on Monday, but that's just a short-term gig, probably no more than a month. I'm being considered for one other full-time position currently, and keeping my eyes open for anything else I can find. Leads are appreciated!

Right now, I've got a few days of completely free time, with no work obligations hanging over my head, and it feels great. I've spent a lot of time reading, which is nice, and some time out in the beautiful fall sunshine. (I love autumn weather.) I am enjoying life.

Thanks for the link to Uncle Jim. I wasn't aware of that site and a little inspiration is always appreciated on those days when my brain is empty and the paper is blank.

Ooh, good luck! I would like to get a job at the University of Rhode Island, since we live right on the campus. That's a commute I really wouldn't mind!
