Working Hard

So, a whole bunch of deadlines mysteriously appeared out of nowhere in the past week, and about five different projects all apparently need to be delivered by mid-November. Unfortunately, many of these projects are far from being done. And these deadlines are not flexible, at all.

I've been told that I may have to work 60-hour weeks in the near future. I've also been told that if they can't finance actual overtime pay, which is likely, then I'll just have to take the extra time off afterwards.

So maybe I'll be getting some extra vacation this year. That'd be nice!

One of the recruiters I talked to yesterday told me that business suddenly picked up in general this week. I'm just afraid that they'll push it all off onto existing employees and not hire anyone new because the economy in general is still really shaky despite the fact that the recession has been "officially" over for almost a year. Just remember this key piece of advice from U2: don't let the bastards grind you down.

I am jealous of your quitting the rat race and trying to follow your writing dream. Even if it's rough going, it's immensely brave of you to try it, and I imagine it's probably much more fulfilling. I wish I had the financial freedom to attempt something like that. For now, I'll just keep being optimistic that Someday It'll Happen.
