I've spent the last week or so feeling pretty bad because of a nasty cold that Sarah and I have. It mostly just consists of lung-irritation that makes us cough a lot, and it's worst right when we wake up, and for a few hours before bed. It makes getting to sleep extremely difficult, so I haven't been well-rested in many days.

It is not SARS, though, since there is no associated fever, and we gave up our habit of hanging around Toronto airports and hospitals long ago.

A few days ago we baked ANZAC biscuits from a recipe given to me by darling squishings, and I think they are absolutely delicious. Everyone else who's tried them says they're good but unusual.

allypopsicle and a friend of hers are visiting for the weekend, so we are trying to show them all the myriad sights that Rhode Island has to offer. We already went and frolicked on the beach in the cold last night, and Saturday we're going to be spending the day wandering around Providence (most likely in the cold again).

Rhode Island
Things to show them in Providence:

The Big Blue Bug on I-95
The Fox Point hurricane barriers
The Brown Sci-Li Wind Tunnel
The high water mark plaque on one of the government buildings partway up the Hill, showing where the flood of 19XX rose to.
The girls with big hair at Shooter's. :-)

Re: Rhode Island
I don't know where Fox Point is, and I haven't seen the Sci-Li Wind Tunnel, just the tunnel that the trolley takes to get from Kennedy Plaza to Thayer St. Nor have I been to Shooter's. I have seen the Big Blue Bug and the high water mark plaque, though.

Perhaps you should show me around Providence!

Re: Rhode Island
Fox Point is down near Wickendon street, heading towards downtown. By the water. The hurricane barriers are there to be put up as dikes in case of a huge hurricane storm surge coming up the bay, to prevent Providence from flooding agfain.

The Wind Tunnel is on the Brown campus -- the space between the Science Library and the CIT (Computing and Information Center) has the unfortunate property of channelling a square block's worth of wind into a space about 60 feet wide.

Shooter's is a waterfront bar where local's go -- an institution for connoisseurs of women with big hair and caked-on makeup and men with shirts unbuttoned to their navels and their hair greased back. It's a great place to develop skill in the Vhode Island accent...

I would love to show you around, but I haven't lived there since 1995, and haven't been back since 1997 or so...maybe sometime! Let me know if you make it down to Philadelphia, though.

Re: maybe i'm an idiot but...
They are Australian cookies! With oats and coconut! And too much butter and sugar so they're hideously bad for you, but oh-so-delicious!

Re: maybe i'm an idiot but...
oooh, those sound scrumptious. i love oatmeal in cookies. wal-mart of all places has these "all-butter" oatmeal cookies that i swear have about 2 tablespoons of butter in each cookie. but damn, they're good.

The weather has been depressing lately, too. Being sick and sad is awful!

But it is getting sunnier now, and I am feeling mostly better. :)

Yay! You made the biscuits! I am so glad you liked them...I told you that you would! :)
I haven't made any more for a while...I just couldn't deal with all the sugar and butter...made me feel oogie.

I'm sorry you are sick. :( Feel better soon!

Thank you for the recipe! I enjoyed them immensely. :)

Thank you also for the well-wishes. I am feeling mostly better today. Sarah still has the cough a bit but I think we will both be in good health by mid-week!
