Don't go to Newport (NH)

Yesterday was beautiful and sunny and I wanted to get out of the house, but I didn't have any ideas of stuff to do. When that happens, I often have an urge to explore a new place, so I picked Newport, NH, since it's relatively nearby and I've heard it mentioned here and there and hey, maybe it's neat.

It's not. It's tiny and dull. I like New England towns with a nice little main street lined with shops and restaurants. Newport is all set up for that, except instead of neat little shops to spend time in it's all banks and real estate offices and government buildings. There's a nice little park in the middle of the main street area, which has an ice skating rink in it which is neat, but aside from that and a nearby run-down commercial area, there's really not much there.

So if you want a neat day trip to a nice New England town, Newport ain't it.

Yeah! When Sarah and I lived in RI, we'd go over to Newport every now and then, and it was always a good time. The cliffwalk along the ocean by the Salve Regina campus and the mansions was gorgeous, and downtown along the waterfront was also fun to visit.
